DIY Tassel // the tassel itself + several ideas as to using them with lots of different stuff around.
I’m pretty sure that you’ve seen these cuties, well, pretty much everywhere, all over the place, by now (the place in point being Pinterest, Instagram, other blogs, etc). But, these are just too damn pretty! And I’m in this phase where I want to tassel lots of shit around. Like “okay, this looks kinda dull; a tassel would do the job”, and then it’s another thing, and I’m like “yeah, tassel can work here too”. Then again “of course, c’mon, tassel.” Tassel this, tassel that, tassel that too. It’s getting out of control people!
Anyways, since I’m obsessed with tassels now, and who knows, maybe you just skipped the actual DIY steps, I thought it’d be nice if I showed you. Head on below for the steps + the other shit I promised.
DIY Tassel.
I had the most fun buying all these different colored threads! I’ve looked in some stores downtown, but there was either not more than 2 choices of colors (like black and white), or no silk (or some alternative) whatsoever. So, my mom told me about this store located in a part of my city where I honestly can’t remember that I’ve ever been to, and after cruising around in the really narrow streets for some time, there it was. Man, this man (the owner I’m guessing; could be just working there, tho. How is this important to the story?) has every freaking shade of every freaking color. I didn’t even know that some of these colors or shades existed, it was like a revelation or something.
Wow, people are actually trying to find out if we can pack our shit and move to Mars, and I’m talking about revelation and how exited I was when I’ve found some threads store and discovered some new colors. It’s in the little things, guys.
And, needless to say, but… I bought a gazillion of these threads.
Anyway, to the what-s and how-to-s. Let’s go!
the What-s.
– Silk Thread (or embroidery; I think that this here will work)
– Card Stock Paper (decide how long you want your tassel to be, and then measure & cut a piece of paper)
– Scissors
– Pencil and Ruler
– Needle (optional; if you want to stick them through a basket, like I did, or sew them on a pillow or aosmething like that)
the How-To-s.
This isn’t hard to make as it is tricky. The silk slides too easy, and if you don’t have another pair of hands around, like I didn’t have for the most of these, you might want to improvise. But, don’t worry, got you covered anyway. Just give these photos below a look, and you’ll get it.
Actually, put a pin in that for a second, there’s a little something about the silk thread I bought that I’m dying to share with you. Although, I’m about to write some nasty shit down, so if you don’t have the stomach, skip this part. So, the thread smells. But like, oh my freaking god. Le’ me paint you a little picture here. It’s like there’s this guy whose feet are naturally stinky. And so, he’s been working for the entire day, wearing the same socks as yesterday, you know, his shoes also stink. But, when he arrived in his yard, from work, before going in, he’s like “I’m gonna throw this socks away, don’t wanna kill my wife”. Our guy’s a joker, all right. So, he throws the socks in the garbage, and as he’s walking towards his front door, with his feet bare, he doesn’t see the massive dump that his massive dog pooped, so he steps in it. And he’s like “Oh no, Smelly” (yeah, he named the dog smelly), “i’m just gonna use this old towel here to wipe my feet… Honey, throw me a pair of clean socks. Black!” So he puts on the clean socks, and then wears them the next coupe of days, just like that, smelly, shitty and everything feet + socks. The wife survives this, but not because he thought it well, but because as she trows him the socks, she goes to visit her sister for several days. So, yay for the wife. Not for me, cause the thread smells just like this guy’s feet, on the third day after the clean black socks.
Now, back to the tassel.
(it’s also fun if there’s another color to it.)
Several Different Ideas of Using These Around.
1. Styling a (mini) Basket.
2. Curtain Tieback Tassel.
3. Styling up a Pillow.
4. Tassel Bookmark.
You can also accessories your key chain, your purse, the edges of your jeans, or make an earring (I’m absolutely loving these tassel earrings, give that a look), and so on…
