Mom’s Asymmetrical Midi Skirt – and few simple touches to help it shift from kinda mature to more street-y and playful clothing piece.
Last week I was going through some ideas about what to do with these fabrics I have (one of which you can see here) with my mom. She was supposed to take me to this tailor she knew in the neighborhood and so we were looking through some photos to get some inspiration. And I had my eye on several midi skirts with kind of an asymmetrical twist, either on the side or in the middle… And she was like “wait, I have a similar midi skirt, it no longer fits me, try it on, maybe you’ll like it”. To be honest, I actually remembered this skirt, and I also remembered that I was never quite the fan of the print. It’s flowery, yes, but it did seem like something, well my mom, albeit with a great classy style, and older women would wanna wear.
However, I gave the midi skirt a chance and I loved it! My mom suggested that I can change it a little, like open it up a bit in the front, so that it’s more complimenting to both my figure and age. At first I didn’t wanna do it, but later I gave this idea a chance too, and I love how this little intervention made a huge change. Paired with some sneakers and white tee, then the whole look styled up a little with some jewelry, is quite the transformation from “mature” to playful for a casual day out. I don’t know what you think, and I’ll be, of course, thrilled to hear from you in comments, but personally, I love it.
In case you love spending your summer days/nights wearing a fluttering, easy-breezy midi skirts, I’ve selected several (that I loved) for you to pick from (since the one I’m wearing is bought at least 5 years ago and I can’t exactly find it) and update your summer (or what’s left of it) wardrobe. Also, these work with casual-sneakers and whatnot to more dressed up look (which for me, usually, but not necessarily, include high heels, and this sorta happens every wedding or so…).
