A list of my all-time favorite Christmas Movies to watch this holiday season.
One of my all time favorite things to do is to make crafts while watching movies and TV Shows. #homebodylife ammirite? Add to this the fact that it’s winter/holiday season (hello Christmas Movies and crafts), and pizza because why the fuck not, I mean it’s pizza (heart eyes), and you can see why it’s super hard to make me leave home these days haha.
There’s a little thing tho, with the movies… These have to be movies and TV Shows I’ve already seen at least once, and loved! This is so I can focus on my project when I need to, without missing a key scene or some shit, or even worse, messing the project up. So, since I already made a pretty long list of 30 Christmas DIY Ideas, I thought it’d be nice if I add to that a nice list (smaller tho) of Christmas movies.
Y’all have probably seen most of these, so you’ll be able to make stuff and still watch these. You can take this to the next level by inviting some friends over for a nice holiday get-together crafternoon thing. Also, don’t worry, these are not Hallmark Christmas movies or some shit, and they are also not exactly for kids (well most of them), so… have fun, k?
Cool Christmas Movies to Watch this Holiday season.
I remember only a scene from Die Hard 1 that I’ve seen when I was a kid. I’m not sure if I had actually seen the entire movie, or just caught that part on TV or something, tho. I only remember the yippee ki yay scene although, weirdly enough, I don’t remember the exact part when McClane actually says that. Anyways, it was mostly Brooklyn 99 and Jake Peralta’s obsession with the movie that made me wanna see it tbh (have you seen the series – great comedy/detective show! love Andy Samberg).
Anyways, I finally watched all (except the fifth part) more than a year ago I think, and I loved them! I think the reason for me not seeing these earlier was because I felt it was like… People talked about it too much and it always seemed like an exaggerated story, you know? As it turns out, sometimes people actually “exaggerate” with a totally justified reason!
Now, if you feel like this is not exactly a Christmas movie… Ha-I beg the differ! You have Christmas music for starters, an office Christmas party, filthy animals (remember Holy’s colleagues, like the ones that were effing in the office, and let’s not forget Bubby and his White Christmas…).
Furthermore, you have a love story, right, right? John and Holy were not exactly doing well at the beginning, but it all worked out at the end, you know? True love wins. And in between, of course, kicking asses, blood and shit, people dying, tension… And finally, we get the hero moment we all wait for and love – one guy saves all, including Christmas and shit. And that he did. And that he did.
I feel like there really isn’t a need for me to write about Die Hard 2…
2. 8 Crazy Nights (2002)
In this animated movie Adam Sandler a.k.a Davey Stone is to Hanukkah what Grinch is to Christmas, in a way… He hates the holiday season, well, he hates all things, he’s a drunk, known to the police for his drunken crimes, who shits on absolutely everything and everyone. Even though, growing up, he was actually this kid with like a true potential, especially for basketball, right?
So, it’s days before Hanukkah, and hammered Davey strikes again getting himself a conviction. But, the town elf named Whitey – a basketball referee and the town’s ultimate joke (I cried for this dude and I’m sensing you might too haha) suggests that since it’s the holidays, the judge should have a little mercy on Stone. So, Davey gets sentenced to community service, and Whitey must supervise him.
So, the two spend more time together, as we learn more about Davey and why he’s such a douche, you know? And, as you’ve probably guessed, old Whitey tries to influence Davey to do more good shit you know, sober up, get his shit together. Ah, that old fool. Or is he? Just watch it, it’s great!
3. The Night Before (2015)
This is the story of 3 lifelong bros – Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anthony Mackie, and Seth Rogen (so now you know there’ll be drugs, right?) The 3 buds go to New York City to hit this epic party that’s happening each Christmas Eve. As they’re out and about in New York City, in the bar they used to hang out, wearing Christmas sweaters and singing carols, they stumbled upon some old friends, one of which is Ethan’s (Gordon-Levitt) ex girlfriends (Lizzy Caplan). He’s obviously still in love with her, but duh, she’s not sure if she’s willing to go down that road again.
So, the night is wild for the 3 buds, shit takes weird turns, they take crazy drugs, but, “big wow”, they make it to the party. I think I should stop and just let you watch it, yes?
4. A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas (2011)
There really isn’t a better time to bring together 2 old friends who parted ways to make up, than Christmas time, right? As Harold’s hosting Christmas and Maria’s family (like seven hundred people, including her dad – Danny Trejo who is a serious, big, scary man), Kumar visits him to deliver him a package that arrived for him at their old place.
It’s a joint. He’s delivering him a big fucking doobie so you know shit’s about to go sideways. And it goes, like minutes these two got together. In an attempt to save Christmas, the two bruhs and Kumar’s… I don’t remember what, colleague or friend, just some guy okay, & his baby girl, end up at this party… Couple dozen spoiled brats, a virgin that no one wants to you know, and a baby stoned on cocaine later, these guys barely make it alive out of that party. It’s a crazy adventure after crazy adventure (as is always with these two).
5. DreamWorks Holiday Classics (on Netflix)
You have four short Christmas special from DreamWorks’ finest. You got Merry Madagascar with Alex, Melman, Gloria and Marty trying to save Christmas. Then episode 2 is Dragons: the Gift of the Night Fury with Hiccup and Toothless and their adventure to the Island of Dragons. Episode 3 is Donkey’s Caroling Christmas-tacular where Donkey from Shrek has his own show for singing carols, including the Shreks. And finally, the Madagascar Penguins in a Christmas Caper with the penguins visiting the big city only to have one of them end up in some people’s stocking.
Just in case you’re looking for Christmas movies, but in the traditional either romantic or childish holiday way, no worries. Got a list with those too. Continue below.
1. Love Actually (2003)
This movie follows 8 love stories of different couples, all of which are somewhat connected to each other. I’ve seen this movie like a long long time ago, so I don’t remember much (which means tis the season to re-watch it). The cast is amazing tho, you have Alan Rickman (Severus <3 ), Bill Nighy, Liam Neeson, Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley, the adorable ginger kid a.k.a. Jojen from Game of Thrones…
2. the Holiday (2006)
I mean who hasn’t seen the Holiday? Which means it’s the perfect Christmas chick-flick movie to “watch” on your crafternoon, craft night or just your regular get together with your besties. A lil recap just in case, you know… Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet are not doing well love-wise. One has been single for a while now, and the other had just broke up with her douche bag partner. So, looking for an escape, they find each other online and decide to swap houses for the season. Both their lives will never be the same again (omg did I just write that?).
3. Home Alone (1997)
My favorite Home Alone movie is the one with the car! I remember watching it as a child with my little sister. Angela actually loved it so much, that she asked for a toy car with a remote control like the one Alex had. And my parent obviously got her one, not the same, but still. Ah, fun careless times. So, if you’re a 90s kiddo who’d love to relieve some of the childhood magic, tis the movie!
4. Jingle All the Way (1996)
Here’s another one of the movies from my childhood, man I’m getting nostalgic as fuck right now! Schwarzenegger hasn’t been the most attentive husband and father lately. So, it’s Christmas time and he realizes that it’s now or never! He gotta show his wife and kid that he’s there for them. Another thing he realizes is he ain’t got the Turbo Man action figure his son asked for. And they’re all sold out. Will he find a way to get that toy to his son? Of course he will, it’s Schwarzenegger for crying out loud. But. first he’ll have to deal with another forgetful dad…
5. How the Grinch stole Christmas (2000)
Jim Carrey is the Grinch and he is not happy about it haha. Anyways, I feel like there’s no need to write description for this one, I mean it;s the Grinch.
6. The Christmas Chronicles (2018)
This is a new Netflix movie and it’s about two kids – brother and sister who don’t really love each other. But, on Christmas Eve, as their mom has to go to work, the two are left alone to bond. They make a plan to catch Santa on camera, a plan that obviously goes wild and they end up with Santa himself.
Man, I did not think this was gonna be such a long post… I think you have enough Christmas movies to choose from. And tell me – what
are some of your go-to Christmas movies? I’d love to add a movie or two to the list!
