Ever since my bestie Maria told me she was getting married with this awesome dude and even more awesome friend Danilo, I started thinking about throwing her just as kick-ass bachelorette party as the kick-ass gal-pal she is. I had different kind of thoughts and ideas as to planning and organizing how-when-who and everything. But as to what? (or, the theme) I kinda knew right away. We both are the greatest Friends fans, almost all of our friends are also totally in love with the TV Show, there is not a getting-together without a single Friends-quote, so it’s on.
When I shared my idea for this bachelorette party, everyone was on board and oh, so excited. Each one of the girls came up with a different, awesome idea. We had an “official” meeting and almost everyone attended where, we drunk a few beers, talk about ideas, and left with not one certain decision made. Be that as it may, we weren’t all friends, some of us just knew each other from around town, but we all kinda clicked. It was awesome, not a waste of time, thank you very much. Girls and Beers, right?
some a lot phone calls, we’ve managed to all agree on certain details, like for example we finally decided to rent the country-pool-house for the party, which was a great relief. One big thing less to worry about. Then we kinda split some responsibilities among each other, everyone had their own duties, and may I say, we’ve all delivered the hell out of our tasks.
All the while, our girl had no idea as to what we were going to do about her bachelorette party. She knew only the things that we really had to ask her, like for example, the date of the event. But she never stopped asking and trying to squeeze something out of each one of us. She was so impatient and dying to know what were we planning, it was crazy. We were maybe avoiding her a little, ’cause believe you me, that one? She so can pull an information out of you, she’s good. Good thing she didn’t ask where the rebel bases were.
How it all went
- Food & Sweets
Since we rented the pool-house for 24 hours only, we decided we are not going bananas with tons of food, like we all usually do when on a country-getaway. Instead, we decided to have some snacks, a lot of fruit, canapes on sticks for the day. Then later on, when we’re all hungry, we will order some of that crazy-good barbecue and potatoes the locals have been talking about. And let me tell you something, Oh My God. Crazy-good indeed.
As for the sweets-part, of course, we ordered Friends-themed cupcakes from our all time favorite, local pastry shop Grimi. Seriously, there isn’t a thing that they can’t pull off when it comes to decorating and making a cake/cookies taste delicious.
Since we spent half of our planned budget for the pool-house, we had to narrow the list down, so instead of a few different cocktails on the menu, we settled down to just the one, Cuba Libre. And beer. ‘Cause beer brought us closer together. We’re beer girls.
We used all of the quotes that Friends are known for on our cocktail stirrers, cards with which we decorated the fence, T-shirts for each one of us, trying each and every quote to be used only once.
- Gift & other special “We love you so much” moments
We decided to buy her a swim suit because we didn’t want to reveal a single detail about the party and ruin everything.
One of the girls with whom I wasn’t close before, Alexandra, came up with probably the best idea, at the very beginning of the planning. Since that happened, she and I were constantly talking on the phone exchanging thoughts. It was awesome how we knew so little about each other, and yet it felt like we had one mind. Crazy.
Anyhow, her idea was to make a video where each and one of us will sing a different part of the Friends theme song, “I’ll be there for you” by the Rembrandts, and then her boyfriend would merge them into the final one. I can only say, we’ve all felt and look a little bit too retarded, so I won’t be sharing it. Please, do understand, we have families that we love and don’t want to put them through that pain. Thank you for the understanding.
When the day was sailing off, we hit play on that video, and waited for Maria’s reaction. She cried a little ’cause even though we looked hilarious, she recognized our willingness to look stupid just to make her see how much we all adore her. Seriously, we danced at a public place, while some people were watching, with umbrellas in our hands. Oh, yeah, and no music. I’m so sorry I can’t share it.
Next on the list – the Game. Remember that episode, the one with the Embryos? Chandler & Joey vs. Monica & Rachel in “who knows who better?” and the girls lost their apartment. Well, we’ve all come up with around 30 questions together, all related to Maria of course. Then Alexandra has split them into 4 categories: Silly Fears & Pet Peeves; Ancient History, Literature, and It’s all Relative. We were 11 girls without Maria, and since her and I were closest, we decided that I should be the host of the game, and they should divide in two equal groups. We even came up with names for each group: the Smelly Cats & the Ugly Naked Guys. It was super fun.
- Pulling off the surprise
We divided in two groups: the first group was supposed to arrive at the pool house earlier and prepare everything; and the second group was supposed to bring Maria two hours after we’ve arrived there. So we had approximately 3 hours for arranging everything.
The second group went bananas creative. They’ve decorated the whole car with signs about Maria’s Bachelorette and Wedding. They even made her blindfold her eyes, and put on a veil. We wanted to kinda keep the actual thing off of her mind any way we could, so throwing her completely off the course was the right thing to do. Even tough there’s no way she would’ve guessed, and I don’t think that she bought our intention to sell her on a cliche-party. I’m pretty sure that she knew we wouldn’t possibly be seriously throwing her that kind of party. I mean, we all knew how she felt about those kind of parties. We all actually feel the same way about those. Anyhow, I should stop blabbing I think. Check out the rest of the photos, guys.
