I may be a little late on this one, but where I come from, things tend to be late and that’s not something that surprise us here. Even Gandalf’s late in this town. Anyhow, I have just yesterday watched the Secret Life of Pets and it is just awesome. And as a dog owner and bananas-for-dogs person, I thought it would be fun to share a little something on this movie.
The movie started with the story of Max the terrier (portrayed by Louis C.K.). And it instantly reminded me of Phoebe. His love and devotion to his owner, the way he tries to make her stay, how he waits for her to come home. It’s almost entirely the same.
She always starts barking and jumping around if she catches one of us changing clothes, let alone if we actually make a move towards the door after that. It’s like “Don’t go. Please stay. Look, I’m jumping around like crazy, isn’t that enough crazy for you to stay? Or at least, take me with you. But it’s better if we stay home, just sayin’.” Then she makes this crazy-sad squeal, it’s like “pleeeease, I’m crying here.”. After which she would realize that she played (almost) all of her cards, and we’re still leaving her. So she would pull out the final one. She would just lie down, with her forearms beneath her muzzle and she would like, exhale loudly and with disappointment, and she has this heartbreaking look in her eyes. It’s like her whole world had just ended.
And when Max got a roommate, a big hairy guy named Duke (Eric Stonestreet), how uncomfortable, defensive and kinda jealous Max got. That’s what Phoebe does too. When we got her, my mom’s friend got Phoebe’s brother. And every now and then, when she would come over, she would bring him too, and Phoebe goes full Max. She’s barking at the guest, she gets all jealous and intense if we were to pet the other dog.
It’s amazing what the humans behind the Secret Life of Pets (and Despicable Me) did here. They’ve captured each and every pet-character just so right. I’m just a little bit worried about the possibility of Phoebe turning into a ninja of sorts when no one’s around. Or a hard core metalhead. But I’m working on that. I’m installing a few cameras around the house, just in case. Other then that, it was seriously awesome and it totally cheered me up. If you still haven’t seen it, I think that the time has come. Also, get a dog.
And one last thing. If there is a cute little white bunny I wouldn’t trust that thing. Except if it turns out that that bunny was Kevin Hart. I would take that, I mean that dude’s hilarious. Anyhow, watch the movie, try to get a dog, stay cool, and bow-wow friends.
